P-C board appoints Stream to fill vacancy

The Paton-Churdan board of education at its regular meeting April 10 appointed the fourth person to hold the same board position.

Board president Jennifer Maach resigned from the board for personal reasons. Per board policy, vice president David Palmer was appointed as president. Deonne Robey was elected as vice president.

The board appointed Mitch Stream of Churdan to fill the vacancy. He will serve until the regular school election in September, unless voters file a petition calling for a special election. Because the term to which Stream was appointed expires in September, someone elected in a special election would serve only until then.

Greg Carey was elected in 2013 to the seat now held by Stream. He resigned in September 2014 and Libby Towers was appointed to fill the vacancy. Towers resigned in February 2015 to accept employment with the district. Maach was appointed to fill the vacancy. She was elected as board president at the October organizational meeting.

The majority of the board was appointed, not elected. Robey was elected in 2013 to a term to expire in 2017. Palmer was elected in 2015 to a term to expire in 2019.

Denny Tilly was appointed in September 2015 to fill a vacancy left by the resignation of Brad Wilson. That term expires in 2015. Eric Happe was appointed in November 2016 after Steve Burrell resigned. That term ends in 2019.
